How to Install Keyboard Shortcuts – Premiere, Resolve, Avid & Final Cut
If you’ve ever had a client or producer sitting over your shoulder, you know it’s important to edit fast. Customizing your keyboard shortcuts for maximum speed and efficiency is the best way to accomplish that!
Below are instructions to install your new set of shortcuts for the major NLE’s. And if you’re looking for some of our favorite layout tips, be sure to check out this post!
How to Install Keyboard Shorcuts – Adobe Premiere Pro
PC users
- Open up your file explorer and navigate to Root://Users//Documents/Adobe/Premiere Pro/15.0/Profile-CreativeCloud-/Win
- Paste the .kys file.
- Open up Premiere, go to Edit and select Keyboard Shortcuts from the dropdown menu. At the top of the window, click the dropdown menu for Keyboard Layout Preset to select your new shortcuts and hit Ok.
Mac users
- Open up your finder window and navigate to /Documents/Adobe/Premiere Pro/15.0/Profile-[computername]-/Mac
- Paste the .kys file.
- Open up Premiere, go to Edit and select Keyboard Shortcuts from the dropdown menu. At the top of the window, click the dropdown menu for Keyboard Layout Preset to select your new shortcuts and hit Ok.
How to Install Keyboard Shortcuts – DaVinci Resolve
- Inside Resolve at the top menu, click on DaVinci Resolve and choose Keyboard Customization.
- In the top right hand corner of the Keyboard Customization window, click on the 3 dot icon.
- Select Import Preset from the drop down menu.
- Navigate to where you’ve stored your shortcut .txt file, select the file and click Open. You will now see the new set of shortcuts added to the dropdown menu in the top right hand corner.
How to Install Keyboard Shortcuts – Avid Media Composer
- Inside Avid at the top menu bar, go to Edit and choose Preferences from the drop down.
- In the Settings window, navigate to the User tab and click on the User Profile drop down menu. Click on Import User or User Profile.
- Navigate to your folder that contains your XML and Avid Editor File, select that folder and click Ok.
- Your new user profile will now be installed. On the User tab you can now choose Keyboard and double-click to open the new keyboard layout.
*Note: to see the Shift-modifier shortcuts, press the Shift key and additional functions will be shown on the keys
How to Install Keyboard Shortcuts – Final Cut Pro
- Inside Final Cut Pro, in the top menu bar, choose Commands, then Import.
- Navigate to where you’ve stored your shortcuts/command file, select the file and click Open.
- Back inside Final Cut you will now find your new shortcuts in the Commands submenu as well as the pop up menu in the Command Editor.
